Annaliese Spalink, LCSW

Annaliese's primary objective as a therapist is to help clients identify their own goals for therapy, and work towards these goals together.  Therapy appointments will be a collaborative experience in a  safe, nonjudgemental environment.

She has over 10 years of experience in mental health, with a focus in mood disorders and geriatric care.   Annaliese primarily uses a Cognitive Behavioral approach to therapy, but believes in being flexible and finding what type of therapy works best for each client.  Creative approaches, such as using writing and art exercises are easily incorporated if these work well for the client.  Annaliese will also humor, a client's spirituality, relaxation training and mindfulness techniques to help her clients as they work together.

Annaliese's passion for mental health started at a young age after volunteering at a homeless shelter throughout middle school and high school.   Here she learned the importance of mental health treatment and the joy of engaging with people who are working to better themselves.  After earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology,  she worked in psychiatric hospitals gaining experience with many disorders including mood disorders, psychosis, and personality disorders.   She went on to earn Master's degree in Social Work from Chicago State University, where she graduated with honors and a focus in family practice and gerontology.   Annaliese then worked in Adult Protective Services where she conducted long term therapy and case management with older adults and their families.  Her clinical training was completed at Riveredge Psychiatric Hospital where she managed the programming for an older adult unit.  Riveredge provided Annaliese the opportunity to do short term therapy and case management with children, adults and their families including consultation about long term care.

Volunteering continues to be an important part of Annaliese's life. She currently works regularly with World Relief and Breakthrough Urban Ministries in Garfield Park.  Annaliese's joy is found in engaging with others in meaningful ways and she considers it a privilege to be a therapist.  It is a strong belief of hers that no one should struggle without support, and she is available for free phone consultations so that clients can decide if she is compatible with their therapy needs.
